Young children are in the "Sensitive Period" for refinement of the senses, and the auditory sense is especially developing from birth through age 3 ~ 4 yrs of age. This is the time when the child is developing listening skills, exploring sounds, and enjoying music! However, it is important to give experiences with authentic music and instruments...real experiences with real music.  Child-size instruments are very engaging for young children  and give the added bonus of fine motor development of the fingers and hand.
